What is REACh and what does it mean?

REACh stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals.  Reach came into force as a Regulation (EC) on 01 June 2007.

By the end of May 2018 all REACH-relevant chemicals must be registered with an annual production of one ton or more. There are interim target dates for higher volume chemicals or chemicals of higher concern.

The registration process is quite long and complex and therefore may not be unnecessarily delayed.

If the appropriate deadline is missed it will not be possible to place the chemcial on the market; non-registered substances are not allowed to be produced inside the EU or imported into the EU.

With the chemical regulation from 2007, REACh commits all manufacturers or importers in the EU to register all substances in Helsinki. This concerns the quantity of <100t/a.

REACh makes sure that not only manufacturer but also suppliers and users take responsibility for a safe use of the substances.

The aim of REACh is to ensure that both the user and the environment are protected.

Up to December 2008, companies had to pre-register their substances.

Up to autumn 2010, companies had to register the substances with an import or production rate of more than 1000t/a. As well as evironmentally hazardous substances of 100t/a and CMR-Substances with a quantity of 1t/a.

At the end of May 2013 all substances of more than 100t/a had to be registered.

From now on the registration from all substances more than 1t/a is underway.

From 10 mt/a the registration file must include a substance security report. The safety datasheets need to be available in all countries where the substances are exported.

REACh and ADD-Chem

ADD-Chem Germany GmbH is committed to the prerequisite of REACh. We are the connection between customers and suppliers through the supply chain. Our aim is to make the important information available to you. We ensure that our substances comply with REACh and so we are working together with our customers and suppliers closely.

What our customers have to do with regard to REACh?

Under REACh the user of substances assumes the role of the downstream user. Therefore the user must check the use of the substance and take risk reduction measures with reference to the substance information supplied by ADD-Chem Germany GmbH in the safety data sheet. As soon as ADD-Chem Germany GmbH has new safety datasheets, these will be sent to our customers. The most important task for the user would be to check the advanced safety data sheets with reference to their specific use.
